When do I have to put the EU flag in Horizon Europe?

The EU flag is mandatory in Horizon Europe for all communication and dissemination activities, as well as on infrastructure, equipment, vehicles, supplies, or major results funded by the grant. The flag must be clearly visible alongside the text: “Funded by the European Union.”

Key points from Article 17 of the Horizon Europe AMGA on Communication, Dissemination, and Visibility:

  • Communication and Dissemination (17.1):
Beneficiaries must promote the project and its results strategically and effectively, targeting multiple audiences including the media and the public. Before any communication expected to have major media impact, the granting authority must be informed.
  • Visibility — EU Flag and Funding Statement (17.2):
All communication materials (brochures, presentations, websites, social media, etc.), dissemination activities, and any infrastructure, equipment, vehicles, supplies, or major results funded by the grant must include the European flag and the funding statement. The flag must remain distinct, unaltered, and displayed at least as prominently as other logos.
  • Use of the Emblem:
Beneficiaries can use the EU emblem without prior approval but do not have exclusive rights to it and cannot appropriate it by trademark or other means.
  • Quality and Disclaimer (17.3):
All communications must present factually accurate information and include the disclaimer:
“Funded by the European Union. Views and opinions expressed are those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or [name of the granting authority]. Neither the European Union nor the granting authority can be held responsible for them.”
  • Additional Rules (17.4):
Specific communication and visibility requirements, if any, are detailed in Annex 5.
  • Non-compliance (17.5):
Failure to comply with these rules may result in grant reductions or other measures as described in the grant agreement.
